"Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent
To blow up the King and Parli'ment.
Three-score barrels of powder below
To prove old England's overthrow;
By God's mercy he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holla boys, Holla boys, let the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!
And what should we do with him? Burn him!"
Tonight is Bonfire Night, traditionally celebrated with fireworks a plenty. The nights are drawing in and it is this time of year when we begin to use fireworks for lots of celebratory event.
However, just a reminder, Fireworks are dangerous, and are not toys. Fireworks can cause serious injury, and it is important that you are responsible when around fireworks, or even sparklers.
Here are some top tips:
Fireworks are not toys. Never play with them, they are dangerous
If you are given a sparkler, hold it at arm's length - and please be responsible with it
Remember, the end of a sparkler is very hot, do not touch it even after it has gone out
Even if a firework hasn't gone off it could still explode. Do not go near a firework that has been lit
When you are watching fireworks stand well back from them
Only adults should light or hold fireworks
Remember, you must be over 18 to buy fireworks from shops
Keep your pets indoors, they can get scared or hurt easily
Every year, so many people are injured by fireworks, just because people are not careful or sensible with them.
So be carefull with fireworks- but remember to have fun!
